Before heading off to Yoho National Park to visit the Burgess Shale and the Mountain Parks’ other natural attractions, you can stay in Calgary. If you are planning on staying in Calgary during the month of July, consider that the Calgary Stampede runs for 10 days (03-12 July 2009), during which all hotels in the city will have been booked months in advance. Room rates will increase astronomically during this period.

Hotel Arts in the downtown area has a contemporary feel and many amenities, including a pool. spa, fitness centre, and upscale restaurant. Service is available in several languages. Rates range from $119 to $269 a night.

Some suggestions for hotels near the airport…

The Delta Calgary Airport is located on the departures level of the Calgary International Airport, and can be reached without leaving the airport. Rates range from $229 to $269 a night.

The Hilton Garden Inn Calgary Airport is located five minutes south of the Calgary International Airport. Amenities include baggage storage, foreign currency exchange, and a multi-lingual staff. Rates range from $170 to $200 a night.

Some hotels near the Trans-Canada Highway…

The Hampton Inn & Suites Calgary is located on Banff Trail, with easy access to the Trans-Canada Highway. The hotel has a rain forest theme room with a pool, hot tub, and water slide. Rates range from $161 to $180 per night.

The Calgary North Thriftlodge is located directly off of the Trans-Canada Highway, and has an outdoor swimming pool. Rates are about $125 per night.
