Takakkaw Falls

Takakkaw Falls

Takakkaw Falls is Western Canada’s second-tallest hanging waterfall. Located in the beautiful Yoho Valley, the falls and associated campgrounds are both a popular  favourite and home to more secluded recreational options. Many picnic tables are found within view of the falls, and the the falls are is only a short walk from the parking lot. Along with Tak Falls Campground, other accommodations include the backcountry Laughing Falls campground (about a 1.5 km hike uphill from the road past beautiful Wapta Falls), the Stanley Mitchell ACC Hut, and the Whiskey Jacks Hostel.

Whiskey Jacks Hostel is located at the trail head of the Iceline hike, an approximately 5-hour hike that takes you above the tree line along the foot of many glaciers (which are unfortunately retreating). The Iceline trail is located across the valley from Takakkaw Falls, and provides a view of the glacier that feeds the falls.

The Whiskey Jacks Hostel is also the trail head for the Burgess Shale hike, where your Burgess Adventure will begin.
